'12 Grove Valve Orchestra
The 2012 Grove Valve Orchestra is 100% Zinfandel from a Mendocino vineyard farmed by the Pauli Family. The vineyard is located on an upper bench above the Russian River where the Mediterranean climate produces warm days and cool evenings, providing optimal ripening conditions that result in wines with balanced acidity and good structure.
Bright aromas of black cherry cola, plum, cedar and black licorice continue onto the palate where they meet flavors of strawberries, pepper and a subtle earthiness. This medium bodied wine has lush tannins and a long finish.
This wine commemorates Clif Bar & Company's own in-house band, The Grove Valve Orchestra. The band is named for the type of valves that were manufactured at Clif Bar's headquarters building during World War II. In 2012, right around the time the Zinfandel for this wine was being harvested, The Grove Valve Orchestra took home 1st Place at the 2012 FORTUNE Battle of the Corporate Bands, earning them a place in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This wine commemorates their win with a label collage of each band member and Gary's favorite varietal in the bottle.
