Our 2011 Grenache comes from a small vineyard located just above Lake Mendocino. The 2 acre block is planted on 1103 Paulsen rootstock and grafted with an Entav Clone from France. The 2011 growing season was challenging with late season rains and a late harvest which kept the growers and winemakers on their toes. The wines from this vintage are marked by subtle elegance and great purity of flavor.
The Grenache was fermented in open tops to near dryness and pumped on top of Syrah skins to enhance the color and depth. The wine was then aged in all neutral wood for 16 months. Zinfandel was blended with the Grenache to add depth and structure to the mid-palate.
Elegant aromas of cherry, strawberry and vanilla lead to blackberry, plum and caramel flavors with a well-balanced, long finish. This is a great food wine.
